The Pride March in Toulouse brings together thousands of people
The pink city was adorned with the colors of the rainbow this Saturday, July 2. Thousands of people marched through the streets, departing from Place du Capitole, for the rights of LGBTQI+ minorities (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual). In 2022, one might think that the fight is over, with the legalization of same-sex marriage, the opening of PMA to female couples, but for the demonstrators, the fight must continue.
Behind the faces covered in glitter, there is also fear. Pierre-Baptiste is worried, we have to keep walking: “There was an attack in Oslo, he recalls, an attack on Sunday June 26 which targeted the homosexual community. I think it’s important to show that we’re here, with a sense of celebration, to promote kindness and tolerance.”
We can lose what we have learned very easily
In the crowd, Laura and Ambre are holding hands, but for Laura, this simple gesture is not yet easy to assume everywhere, “in Toulouse, it depends on the neighborhoods“, she acknowledges. “We can lose what we have learned very easilymet Nathan in custody. The rise of hatred, of discrimination comes at the snap of a finger. This is why these moments are very important. It’s necessary show that we existthat we are numerous and united.”
The fight is therefore far from over and what better than a giant party to raise awareness. Simon came with a group of friends. “There are more and more people at the March who are not LGBTQI+, he observes, but who finds himself in this fight for the freedom to be who we are and to love who we want. If it’s a way to send messages to people generated by the festive side, so much the better. We combine the useful with the pleasant.”
