Donald Trump threatened war with Sweden over ASAP Rocky
Donald Trump is said to have threatened a trade war with Sweden over the imprisonment of ASAP Rocky.
The rapper was arrested and charged with assault in 2019 after a video appeared in which he attacked a fan on the street. Trump used his presence on social media to fight for Rocky’s freedom and wrote relentlessly about the case, even saying that he was “very disappointed” with Sweden’s then Prime Minister Stefan Lofven.
“Give A $ AP Rocky his FREEDOM,” Trump said infamously on Twitter. “We do so much for Sweden but it does not seem to work the other way around. Sweden should focus on its real crime problem! ”
In an interview with the Swedish newspaper Today’s news On Thursday, the country’s Justice Minister Morgan Johansson said that the former US president also warned the Swedish government of “trade restrictions” if Rocky was not released as soon as possible.
He is alleged to have told Stockholm that he had already contacted the European Commission, the EU’s head, for support. However, it is unknown if Trump bluffed.
“This story shows how important it really is to stand up for our legal principles and not to take our democracy for granted,” argued the Minister and Member of Parliament. “If you can try to do something like this against Sweden, what will you try to do against slightly weaker countries that do not have the EU behind them?”
Rocky was eventually found guilty in a Swedish court, and he was sentenced to probation.
