Bingen Arostegi returns to Lezama to take charge of Bilbao Athletic | Athletic
The board of directors values the great experience of the Bermeo coach in training tasks to give him the controls of the subsidiary team
The returns mark the sports structure of Athletic after the arrival of Jon Uriarte to the presidency. If Ernesto Valverde took command of the first team in what will be his third stage, this Saturday Bingen Arostegi’s return to Lezama was announced, who will succeed Patxi Salinas at the helm of Bilbao Athletic.
The Biscayan coach (Bermeo, 1969) is an old acquaintance in the red-and-white factory, since he held various positions between 2007 and 2018. He was coach of the Athletic Juvenil División de Honor between 2007 and 2012, with whom he won the Cup title in the 2009-2010 season, the last one so far. Later, he directed Cadete B in the 2014-15 campaign and a year later he was second to Joseba Aguirre in the women’s first team, an exercise in which he also modified Athletic’s last league title. The following year, he was a second to Ziganda at Bilbao Athletic and promoted with him to the men’s first team in the 2017-2018 campaign, to later leave Athletic and reunite with Ziganda at Oviedo, where he has remained his second until the end of the 2021-22 academic year.
It so happens that the name of Bingen Arostegi came up in the electoral campaign, but not within Jon Uriarte’s plans for Lezama but rather those of Ricardo Barkala. Within the work structure led by Ramón Planes, who would have been Athletic’s sports director in the event of Barkala’s victory, Arostegi appeared as the person in charge of methodology, one of the four integrated areas under the orders of the player from Lleida.
But it was Jon Uriarte’s victory at the polls on the 24th that led to Bingen Arostegi’s return to Athletic. Waiting to know the name of the sports director chosen by the board of directors, it has been Sergio Navarro, in charge of designing the organization chart of Lezama. The one who has valued the great experience in the lower red and white categories of the Bermeo coach and has opened the doors of a subsidiary that seeks stability in the First RFEF after a complicated season where the bet on Imanol de la Sota did not work and there was to promote Patxi Salinas from Basconia to Bilbao Athletic to straighten out a situation threatened by relegation.
Analyst in each team
In his new stage in Lezama, Arostegi will have Jon Solaun as assistant coach, coach of the Juvenile Division of Honor last season, and Iban Urkiza as physical trainer. Dani Aranzubia, as goalkeeping coach, and the analyst Pau Suazo whom Arostegi brings from Oviedo. This is one of the novelties for this season in the rojiblanca factory, since they want to have a data analyst in each of the training teams, from the first subsidiary to the juniors.
It remains to know the rest of the trainers of the structure. Everything indicates that Carlos Gurpegui, one of the names that pointed to the subsidiary, will repeat at the head of Basconia, while as this newspaper pointed out, Bittor Llopis and Javi González will be in charge of directing youth A and B, respectively, in the 2022-23 academic year.
