13 projects honored with regionality prize
Business
Every year, RegionalMedien, in cooperation with ORF Salzburg, awards innovative projects with the Regionality Prize. A total of thirteen prizewinners were honored in the areas of customs, health, sustainability, education and culture.
Trophies with hearts of salt went to the thirteen winners of the Regionality Award. There was much applause for the winner in the “Agriculture and Forestry” category. Josef Quehenberger from Abtenau (Tennengau) produces organic fertilizer from sheep’s wool pellets.
Fertilizer made from sheep’s wool pellets
With his idea, sheep farmers should be able to market the wool more profitably. The raw material is optimally used as fertilizer, according to Quehenberger: “We have the sheep in Salzburg and they are also sheared in Salzburg. The wool is also processed and sold here. That’s a whole lot of value-added processes that all stay within the country. But you also have to look at the nutrient cycle. We do not deliver the organic fertilizer away and thus also ensure valuable soils.”
“Gasoline Free Days” award
That also convinced the four-strong jury. The “Gasoline Free Days” of the Salzburg Transport Association were just as convincing. The free public transport offer on Fridays is well received. It has been extended to September. Wilhelm Prommegger from the Salzburg transport association: “We have had over 200,000 more people using public transport since the beginning of April. This shows us that the interest is there and that it has to be as low as possible so that it is accepted.”
Over 120 submitted projects
Over 120 projects were submitted today. In recent years, ideas relating to the topic of digitization have accumulated. Michael Kretz, Managing Director of RegionalMedien Salzburg GmbH: “The last two years have shown that there has been a necessary push to integrate digitization into the education sector right from the start. This means that the topic has arrived, but at the same time there are still many knowledge gaps in the field of digitization and a lot of need to deal with it properly. There are now many initiatives that start right here.”
This year, too, the submitted projects come from all districts. And the salt hearts now have new owners all over the state.
