Women’s soccer. Defined the collective agreement, today the transition to professionalism. Gravina: “A conquest of civilization”
The date that will mark a epochal turning point for women’s football and for all Italian sport it is around the corner and thanks to the commitment made by the Federation with the support of clubs, AIC and AIAC starting from tomorrow the transition to professionalism of the top women’s championship. July 1, 2022 will be like the day that revolutionizes the history of the movement, finally rewarding the sacrifices of the players who, many battles and a long wait, seeing their rights.
“Tomorrow we celebrate a great day for women’s football and for all the Italian sport – declares the president Gabriele Gravina – the debut of professionalism it represents a conquest of civilization that will do the whole country good. Thanks to the Football Association, the Division, the Clubs and the players we have taken, all together, a decisive step in projecting our system into a more equitable and international dimension. However, the development path still has to be accompanied with targeted interventionsI hope to always find the Government and Parliament at our side, as has already happened in the first phase, to consolidate this turning point and root it in the national culture ”.
Yesterday lassembly of women’s Serie A clubs defined the collective agreement – which will last three years – together with players and coaches, giving the green light to the document governing the employment relationship from an economic and regulatory point of view between companies and members. A formal step that, just over two years after the start of the process, paves the way for the change of status of footballers of the top female championship, which from now on will be able to count on one minimum minimum guaranteed and on recognized protections, such as insurance, maternity and retirement.
The FIGC, therefore, becomes official the first Italian Federation to implement this step, which completes a path of reforms that in recent years has allowed the growth of the movement, together with new rights for athletes and sports workers. “We are aware of the great work that still has to be done in order to achieve sustainability over time for the system, but I believe that tomorrow, 1 July 2022, will be a historic day to live and celebrate all together – these are the words of the president of the Ludovica Mantovani Women’s Football Division – dialogue and discussion have given life today to a shared document that allows us to look at professionalism in women’s sport with excellent conditions “.
