In Toulouse, Emmaüs is opening an auction house in a castle!
It is a place steeped in history, twenty minutes from the Place du Capitole in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne), that the Emmaüs association has taken over. On July 1, from 1:30 p.m., the companions open a new auction room, in Sesquières, at the Château de Ginestous. Purchased in 2019 and restored, the 17th century building is located in a 4.2 ha park, some areas of which are listed. The auction room is located in a large hangar of 2,600 m². A deposit area to receive donations and value them has also been set up.
“This location in Toulouse, close to public transport, will allow the community site of Sesquières to be part of a set of services and within a strong associative fabric, emphasizes Emmaüs. We will continue to offer a model of reasoned and united consumption in order to limit waste and preserve natural resources, and to support men and women in their life course. We have contributed to the development of the dynamics of this Toulouse district, which is already open to many Social and Solidarity Economy structures: Greenburo, Agir, La Glanerie, Défi à l’espoir, Secours populaire, Gaf, Espoir”.
About thirty companions, previously housed on the Saint-Jory site, now live in the rehabilitated castle, with 19 accommodations. Individual accommodation has also been integrated in front of the castle, some of which is accessible to people with reduced mobility.
The Château de Ginestous was rewarded for its social impact by the Heritage Foundation and financed to the tune of 300,000 euros under its Impact Fund in 2021. The total cost of the project, supported by Toulouse Métropole, the departmental council and the region , amounts to approximately 4 million euros.
