IMSEE presented for the MEB its statistical report for 2021, (…)
Every year the Monaco in figures presents the necessary data, analyzed and compiled by the Institute, an essential work which covers very varied fields such as the economy, employment, population, the environment, etc.
The collection is particularly appreciated by economic players who find useful data for their activities and for the preparation of their development projects.
This year, Alexandre Bubbionew Director of IMSEE since last November, took up the torch of this annual conference and presented with two of his collaborators the most applicable information for the more than 70 managers present at the Novotel Monte-Carlo.
2021 will have been synonymous with recovery in the Principality and this resulted in a certain optimism on the part of Alexandre Bubbio who relied on the reality of the figures.
Starting with the state budget which, after a deficit in 2020, a first in eight years, has gone back to green with a surplus of eight million euros. However, economic activity has not completely returned to normal, certain sectors, in particular the hotel and catering industry, have had to wait longer to recover. But for the majority, the rebound was significant, such as the retail trade which saw its turnover increase sharply compared to 2020 (+25.8%), with even an upward trend compared to 2019. Another indicator of the Principality’s sustained performance, real estate: the average price per m2 of property resales amounted to 51,912 euros, up 9% compared to 2020. Over the period 2012-2021 the increase is by 74.3%.
The recovery also extended to the level ofuse as explained Julie Marty, Head of Section within the Institute. The number of employees in both the public and private sectors is globally distributed on the rise, despite a hotel and catering sector still in difficulty during this period. As of December 31, there were 58,087 salaried jobs in the Principality, a figure again higher than in 2019, a year that was nevertheless sumptuous and pre-covid.
Finally Pascal Ferry, Head of Division, returned to the health check of a year that has seen several waves of contamination, especially at the end of the year. Vaccination rates were also presented, highlighting the significant efforts made by the Principality in this area.
Finally, Alexandre Bubbio and his team got ready for the game of questions, answering with precision the questions of the participants. And to go further, the cocktail that followed allowed everyone to continue their discussions, quantified or not, in a friendly atmosphere. Each participant finally left with a preview of Monaco in figures, which fueled reflections and projects for 2022 and beyond.
