‘Here in Amsterdam they can have a little more than in Brabant’
Mohamed Ihattaren is all in all happy with the way it went for him† The Ajax player had problems with PS in his past, but thanks to the Ajax he rose again. Things did not always go smoothly between him and Roger Schmidt – the PSV practice trainer – and he feels that he can lose his egg in Amsterdam.
Incidentally, Ihattaren does not look at his old club with a negative feeling at all, on the contrary. ‘I am grateful to PSV’, he says ESPN† “I’ve received a lot of help from the club, but it doesn’t always depend on that. My problem was that I was maybe too honest at times. You’ve been young too, so every now and then you run the gamut. I’m glad I’ve already experienced that, because I now know how to start with it.’
Although he has no problems with PSV, things did not always go smoothly between him and Schmidt. “We have a very different view of football. I didn’t like how he wanted us to start playing. But who am I? I’m just a player, like everyone else. I’m just honest and say what I think. That’s how I live. Here in Amsterdam they can have a little more than in Brabant.’
After I was later performed by Ajax, he continued to work on his fitness at the club. He talks about the way he supports Ajax, also from the players. He is mentioned, among others, Sean Klaiber, who recovered from an injury. “When I was at the gym, they were there too. I talked a lot and we were positive towards each other. Day in day out. They matters like: you don’t forget footballer. It is only suitable for you. It’s not that hard† Those words certainly give a lot of power.’
A reality check
Overall, Ihattaren certainly didn’t have it easy, but it did give him a reality check. “I’m glad I got to see him when I was eighteen or five and not when I was 20. I still have a long career ahead of me. I have everything I want, I’m happy and I’m at a great club. I work with wonderful people every day.’
