Health – Hanover – Minister of Health promotes more corona protection measures – health
Hanover (dpa / lni) – Lower Saxony’s Health Minister Daniela Behrens has spoken out in favor of giving the federal states more opportunities for binding corona protection measures again. From the point of view of the federal states, the federal government must change the legal basis in such a way that in autumn and winter a general mask requirement and minimum distances indoors can again apply as basic protection, said the SPD politician on Friday after a conference with her departmental colleagues. In the event of a more serious burden on the health system, access restrictions and upper limits for people would have to be possible again, as would the cancellation of events if the intensive care units were about to be overloaded.
“From my point of view, it is crucial that these measures are only applied if clearly defined indicators for measuring the burden on our health system exceed critical limits,” said Behrens. The definition of these indicators and interfaces is a central task of the next months. There are currently many corona cases again, but these only put a “moderate” burden on the health system.
There is currently no threat of another lockdown, also because many people have now been vaccinated, Behrens emphasized: “Vaccinations remain the key in the fight against the pandemic.” According to the Robert Koch Institute, 77.7 percent of people in Lower Saxony are basic immunized.
