Börse Express – Kick-Off: Salzburg AG launches green startup one2zero in Vienna

Sugar Mizzy July 1, 2022

Presentation of the booklet “Zero Emission Society Austria” in the Augarten

Vienna (OTS) – The new, green corporate startup of Salzburg AG celebrated its launch in Vienna with a top-class panel discussion. one2zero invited to the Vienna Augarten and presented its first publication “Zero Emission Index Austria”. In addition to the discussants such as climate researcher Daniel Huppmann, incubator founder Dejan Jovicevic or young entrepreneur Anna Pölzl, both one2zero managing directors Peter Hochleitner and Tobias Wiener were also present.

Climate neutrality is increasingly becoming a success factor in Austrian companies. However, the global climate goals require one thing above all: an intelligent conversion of global energy and economic systems. The green energy company one2zero, a subsidiary of the energy supplier Salzburg AG, shows in the publication “Zero Emission Index Austria” whether the domestic economy is ready for this change and what the current status of the national business landscape is.

In order to discuss this content intensively, the young corporate startup of Salzburg AG invited more than 100 guests to the kick-off in Vienna’s Augarten on Thursday evening. In addition to the two one2zero managing directors Peter Hochleitner and Tobias Wiener, political advisors Thomas Hofer, Franz Haigl (Leitbetriebe Austria), Henning Eßkuchen (Erste Group), Christian Plas (Denkstatt), Gerlinde Layr-Gizycki (Inamera) and those responsible from partners also came -Startups like Thomas Nemetz (Ocean Maps), Manuel Dorfer (solbytech) and many others. On the podium, climate expert Daniel Huppmann (iiasa), young entrepreneur Anna Pölzl (nista.io), investor Florian Haslauer (e.venture consulting), Dejan Jovicevic (incubator) and sustainability expert Elisabeth Müller (social & green marketing agency sgreening) exchanged views on the green future of Austria.

It takes courage and an understanding of sustainability

The focus of the discussion was the question of what must happen in Austria in the next three years in order to achieve climate neutrality. In this context, the climate researcher Daniel Huppmann mentioned the importance of scenario analyses, which are made easier to understand for the general public in order to be able to initiate important processes in society and the economy. Elisabeth Müller also spoke out in favor of the importance of raising awareness among the population and the responsibility of those responsible for marketing and communication in this regard. “Sustainability must also be combined with real measurability of impact,” adds the sustainability expert. Major challenges for the movement towards climate neutrality are located, among other things, in the lack of structure or a lack of clear frameworks for sustainability, but also in lengthy approval processes for new technologies. All discussants see cooperation between politics, society and business as indispensable. Investor Florian Haslauer mentioned the electrification of mobility as a special value driver for climate neutrality, adding: “The sharp rise in energy prices and changing customer needs along the supply chain are literally forcing companies to change.”

The topic of courage played an important role in the conversation: On the one hand, everyone agrees that it takes courage to actively tackle change. Incubator founder Dejan Jovicevic adds the following perspective: “In fact, I find managers negligent who do not deal with the topic. Simply because it’s about the future viability of your own company.” Anna Pölzl, co-founder of nista.io, a Viennese start-up for the measurement and integration of energy sensor data, concludes: “Most of all, people encourage me to see the possibilities for change and Showing solutions instead of just pointing out problems.”

Booklet launch in Vienna’s Augarten

For the first one2zero booklet, the corporate start-up explores the question of how Austria’s industry, business and civil society can already actively embark on the path towards “zero emissions”. “It’s important to finally get down to business. There is no plan B. Without daily training and more intensive engagement with green energy, Austria’s competitiveness and fitness for the future will be promoted,” appeals one2zero Managing Director Tobias Wiener. “We want to use the green opportunity for Austria together. That’s why key people from many sectors of business, science and interest groups were asked to share their experiences,” adds Peter Hochleitner, one2zero Managing Director.

Climate neutrality as a strategic goal

The results of the publication show that two out of three companies have already anchored climate neutrality in their strategy. In addition to increased efficiency, the reduction of your own CO2 emissions also enables cost-saving management and more independence in your own energy supply. In Austria, too, more and more large, but also small and medium-sized companies are preparing for this changeover and are taking the first initiatives to transform their energy systems. For the time being, however, implementation often fails: for example, less than half of the total CO2 emissions along their upstream and downstream supply chains are known. “This is exactly why the one2zero exists. We plan, advise and build a green future and accompany you on the way to zero,” conclude Hochleitner and Wiener.

About the publication

The digital booklet on the subject of “Zero Emission Society Austria” provides insights and orientation for companies on the subject of climate neutrality on the basis of a quantitative survey and a qualitative survey of various experts. Concrete measures and real insights into organizations that are clearly positioned as pioneers in climate issues (Österreichische Post AG, Wiener Linien, Microsoft, ASFINAG, Austrian Airlines, Brauunion Österreich, TÜV, waterdrop) should provide orientation and show how a classic transformation to climate neutrality can work.
