A new Monegasque team!
In constant innovation, AS Monaco will create a new team within it. This new formation, made up of young players, will compete against other club squads around the world in the Premier League Cup International (PLCI).
Established in 2014, the PLCI is played in England and brings together 24 teams of young footballers each year. Won by Manchester City, Villarreal and Bayern Munich, it is FC Porto that dominates the winners of this competition and won it two consecutive years, in 2017 and 2018. Not in the last two years, it marks its big organized comeback and therefore welcomes AS Monaco.
An intriguing project
On its official website, the ASM presents its innovation which will accentuate the training of young shoots in a competition that is still very high, with a former French defender at its head: “The result of a reflection on its global project for the development of young potential, this new orientation marks the Club’s desire to define the best possible training course for its young players. The Elite group, which mainly concerns elements aged 19 to 21 and will rely in particular on the finalist generation of the French U19 Championship, will be supervised by Damien Perrinelle. His experience as an assistant coach in the first team for the past two seasons, as well as his profile, will ensure continuity with the professional group.
The English Sporting Director Paul Mitchell wanted to add that the ASM-Bruges agreement will also be taken into account to organize a common group of young players: ??“In the search for the best training course, this opportunity is the best way to develop the various bridges in our current ecosystem, and to bring AS Monaco and Cercle Bruges even closer together”.
Finally, for Pascal de Maesschalck, AS Monaco’s Director of Young Player Development, this is one more chance for the Monegasque nuggets to perform and quickly knock on the door of the Ligue 1 team, which includes already well trained: “Through this new approach, the Club wishes to continue to reinforce the impact on the first team, like the nine players from the Academy who have started with the pros over the past two seasons”.

ASM and Cercle Bruges therefore create the Elite team without saying goodbye to their respective youth teams. An interesting project that confronts teams from the best clubs in the world in a private tournament…
