Hundreds of people went from Jan Palach Square to the US Embassy this afternoon to protest the abortion ban in the United States. Under police surveillance, protesters carried hand-made signs with slogans and chanted.
People met at half past five in the afternoon at Rudolfinum, where they moved from the original Malostranské Square. 1500 people registered for the event and according to the organizers, not so much would fit there. On the issue of speech, a representative of Amnesty International, Konsent and the Czech Women’s Lobby. According to their own words, they fear that a similar law banning abortions, recently approved by the Supreme Court in the United States, could pass the Czech Republic.

Then, accompanied by the police, the protesters marched to the embassy. They crossed the Mánes Bridge, U Lužického semináře Street, Mostecká Street to Tržiště Street, where the United States Embassy is located. Police officers had to stop traffic on an ongoing basis, but otherwise the protest went without complications.
In front of the embassy building, police officers had barricades ready and coordinated passing cars. Protesters again chanted anti-abortion slogans such as “women’s rights, human rights”, “my body, my rights” or “trash patriarchy” and began to disperse about ten minutes, an hour after the event began.
