PRAGUE

There is a caravan rental at the Prague airport. We want to be the largest in the Czech Republic soon, says the owner

Sugar Mizzy June 30, 2022

The Campiri company, which operates an online platform for renting motorhomes, has set up a complex near Prague Airport, where it will rent and service motorhomes and caravans. At present, it has 26 cars in its offer, it wants to have 50 by the end of the year and a hundred within two years. It would thus become the largest motorhome rental company in the Czech Republic.

The Campiri Base Prague complex has more than half a hectare, and according to the owners’ calculations, about a hundred motorhomes can get to it. You are right next to the Go parking lot, on the other side of the D7 motorway opposite Václav Havel Prague Airport. “Instead, we chose the plan, I believe that in the future, our services could be used by travelers who arrive in the Czech Republic and want to travel by motorhome,” says Lukáš Janoušek, founder and director of Campiri.

It provides online rental of motor homes and caravans. It works in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and also in Poland. The platform combines the offers of several rental companies, so about 700 cars on offer are interested in this type of travel in one place, of which about 600 in the Czech Republic, which makes it the largest online rental company on the market. In addition to rental machines, however, it also connects the private owner with those interested in lending, the so-called p2p market segment (peer to peer, ie directly, without an intermediary).

“We first wanted to try what it’s like to have our own rental company to find out what customers expect from cars and what makes them happy, what it takes to wish and take over cars. That’s why last year we ran a rental shop with fourteen cars in Velká Chuchle,” says Lukáš He agreed from Campiri, who is in charge of operating the new Base Prague complex.

“But the new space is to provide many more services. First, we now have 26 cars and there will be over fifty by the end of the year. We have launched the service, both for our needs, because thanks to that we will quickly put our machines back into operation, both for the public. There are few motorhomes and they have long waiting times, which is a problem, “he adds.

In addition, the so-called detailing service is offered for motorhomes, ie precise cleaning of the exterior and interior of the vehicle with the help of special cosmetics and devices, including the polishing of scratches on the paint or glass.

The caravanning boom in the Czech Republic

There was no electricity, sewerage or water on the plot, now up to a hundred cars can park here. Two days before the start of the holidays, the space was half empty, most of the cars were already on loan, but there were several cars of various ages for service. Janoušek confirms that the caravan boom in the Czech Republic is huge. “We are currently in over 300 loans. Last year we made about 800 loans and I believe that by the end of this year there could be about 2600. It is known that this way of traveling liked, not only at the time of the time. plans what services we want to deliver over time, “he adds.

Above all, he wants to focus on the private owner. According to Campiri, they use their cars only three weeks a year, they only park for the rest of the time. Therefore, they want to persuade them to leave their machines to Campiri for the rest of the year, which will lend them, service them, park them, simply start with them. How much would the owners of this share earn per year, but the company does not want to communicate publicly.

For those who do not want to lend their holiday machine to anyone else, but have nowhere to park safely, they will offer the opportunity to park it on the premises. According to Campiri, there are about 50,000 motorhomes and caravans in the Czech Republic, of which only 2,000 are in rental shops. But there aren’t many really big caravan rentals, the biggest ones being Caravans Czechia and Caravans Liberec. “We would like to have about a hundred cars of our own within three years,” Janoušek calculates. This would make Campiri the largest rental company in the Czech Republic.

What about a motorhome in the winter

Only Campiri cars are almost completely reserved, but the company is looking for ways to make money outside of it. “Traveling by motorhome in the winter is not so widespread here yet, although from our experience it is great, you park directly under the ski slope, the caravan heats you up all night,” says Janoušek. “Last year we tried to send two cars to Greece for the winter and it paid off, I’m interested, so we will send another one there. And this autumn we will start the Malaga project,” he says.

In September, Campiri wants to send a total of about forty machines to Spain, including the Canary Islands. “Not everyone wants to spend a week from vacation just on the road, so it offers me to fly to the place and rent a caravan there, in a place similar to our Prague. In addition, we can prepare an itinerary, where to go, what to visit, where to park and to camp, ”Janoušek calculates.

He would also like to simplify the booking of campsites in the Czech Republic and Poland. “In the autumn we want to start a project with online booking of camps, it does not exist here at all. In the first phase we will have about thirty of them on offer.” We plan to have our own “stellplatz” in the near future, ie a parking space for apartments and caravans directly in the Campiri Base Prague complex. Travelers will be able to relax with us, refill the water or look at us and Prague, “adds Janoušek.
