– It is indisputable that Semmelweis is one of the most significant discoveries in medicine, helping to save millions of lives. His spirituality still lives among us today. The life history and work of the great predecessor carry many eternal lessons, and his preconceived scientific approach, his uncompromising faith in his intuitive findings, and his truth, and his tireless perseverance can serve as an example and guide for all of us. These are the principles and values along which we carry out our work, keeping in mind the unbroken development of patient care activities – emphasized Zoltán Szabó, President of the Clinical Center, in his speech.
The professor praised the appropriateness of his staff during the institutional period of the pandemic, that they were ready to sacrifice patients in extreme trying situations, even with extreme mental and physical strain. Zoltán Szabó added that the Clinic Center was full of difficulties in meeting the requirements of constant renewal based on respect for traditions. The first 20 providers of the integration, which took place on January 21, have become one of the largest health centers in the country.
– This structural change is a truly significant outcome, a major challenge and a potential one. The opportunity for the large-scale, dynamic development of recent years to continue, and for the continuous improvement of the quality of patient care to continue, can be achieved with vigor. To this end, new departments have been set up, the professor said.
He mentioned as an example the establishment of the Gastroenterology Clinic and the Rheumatology Clinic, as well as the Clinical Psychology Center, and the fact that
One of the largest internal medicine clinics in Hungary, with more than 500 beds, was established by raising the former Department of Internal Medicine on the Kenézy Campus to a clinical rank.
He called the specialization of the field of internal medicine, the establishment of profession-specific departments and the establishment of the Epidemiological Coordination Center and the post-COVID outpatient network as a milestone.
The president of the Clinical Center explained that great emphasis has also been placed on infrastructural developments in the recent period. For example, the buildings of the customers involved in the epidemiological care of the two campuses, including the Clinic of Infectious Diseases, were modernized and the new building of the Clinic of Oncoradiology was handed over, which also provided centralized oncology and oncoradiology care.
– However, the instruments and the beautiful environment are worthless without helping hands, without trained professionals. Today, I acknowledge the performance of the staff of the Clinical Center, who performed their duties with great competence and outstanding diligence, and with their perseverance, professional and human attitude to promote the reputation of the University of Debrecen and the Clinical Center – Zoltán Szabó.
For his outstanding work this year, 37 employees of the Clinical Center received the Presidential Recognition Diploma and Reward Award.
