Under pressure from the Netherlands, the European Union will release much less money to create burgers for climate measures. Instead of EUR 72 billion, as proposed by the European Commission, EUR 59 billion will now be made available.
If it were up to Rob Jetten, the social climate fund would have become even smaller, reports NRC† †The smaller fund was a requirement of, among others, the Netherlands, which had seen it much smaller. In a response, Minister Rob Jetten (Climate, D66) states that he “can live with the outcome given the total ambition of the climate package and the more limited consequences of the fund”.†
Finland and Denmark also wanted as little financial compensation for the poor as possible. The Baltic states and Poland argued for generous compensation for hamburgers with higher energy prices. Prosperous EU Member States have made a greater contribution to the social climate fund than a smaller economy.
European climate ministers have specified that greenhouse gas emissions in eight years 55 percent lager than in 1990. In 2035, no more cars may be produced on fossil fuels.
