Schweizer experiences 60 hours of Easyjet chaos in Ibiza
Actually, Pascal Schmoker should land back in Basel on Friday evening. However, he will not return from his Ibiza trip until Monday morning due to flight problems.
the essentials in brief
- Pascal Schmoker wanted to fly back to Basel from Ibiza on Friday evening.
- However, the man from Bern only landed in Switzerland early Monday morning.
- In the two and a half days, the 35-year-old experienced a chaos of cancellations.
When the journey home takes longer than the holidays…
Pascal Schmoker from Bern made his way to Ibiza via Mallorca last week on Wednesday. Because work is waiting again on Saturday, the man from Bern books his return flight tightly and optimistically for Friday evening.
But it comes as it must: Schmoker experiences pure flight chaos in Europe on the return journey, as he tells Nau.ch in detail.
The series of unfortunate flight connections started on Friday afternoon. The 35-year-old received an update from Easyjet that his return flight in the evening was delayed by an hour. Not too bad, Schmoker thinks. “I’ve prepared myself for it to work that way.”
A little later the damper: the connection is canceled.
Schmoker are offered various options by the low-cost airline: a voucher, a refund or a free rebooking.
Double bad luck on Saturday
The man from Bern rebooks his return flight for Saturday evening. But: The connection to Basel is already fully booked. He also has to fly to Geneva. Stupid – since his car is parked in Basel.
Schmoker has to sign off from work on Saturday. The boss easily takes note of his failure, “that can happen.” The 35-year-old should finally be back on Sunday.
Have you already had problems at Swiss or Easyjet due to the lack of staff?
But it turns out differently (again): Countless delays, cancellations and rebookings follow. This not only gets on your nerves, but also time is of the essence. Schmoker has to be back home by Tuesday at the latest. Because that’s when his actual vacation begins – and he has to travel on again.
In desperation, the Swiss even put himself on the business class standby list. Also forgiven: Schmoker is stuck in flight chaos for a total of 60 long hours!
Only a propeller machine can help him out of trouble! With this he makes it from Ibiza to the neighboring island of Mallorca. And from there, among other things, with Easyjet to Basel. “I was totally exhausted,” he says to Nau.ch.
Hoping for a refund from Easyjet
However, the 35-year-old cannot yet complete his odyssey. Because now he is waiting for a refund of around 500 francs from the airline. Because hotels, food, flights and taxis have all added up. “I hope that Easyjet will cover most of the costs,” he says to Nau.ch.
Easyjet confirmed on request that flights from Ibiza to Basel on June 24 and from Ibiza to Geneva on June 25 were canceled. The reason: air traffic control restrictions at the respective airports.
The flight to Basel could not have reached the airport during the night curfew due to previous delays. On the flight to Geneva, the crew – also due to previous delays – had reached the legal maximum working time.
“Customers who have to find hotel accommodation or alternative transport themselves because no Easyjet flights were available will receive a refund,” Easyjet promises to Nau.ch.
