Representatives of Prague 3 sanctified the renaming of Koněvova Street to Hartigova after the first mayor of Žižkov. The renaming will be decided by the City Council on the basis of the recommendation of the Municipal Topography Commission, which has previously informed Prague 3 that it agrees to the name change. The reason for considering renaming is, for example, the bombing of Mladá Boleslav after the war or the involvement in the suppression of protests in Hungary in 1956, which Koněv was responsible for. Karel Hartig is a patriot, builder and the first mayor of Žižkov. Representatives in the survey answer the question whether Koněvova Street should be renamed Hartigova or not.
Question: Are you in favor of renaming Koněvova Street in Žižkov to Hartigova?
The answers are sorted by date and time of delivery to the editorial office.
Ondrej Prokop (YES)
Efforts to rename the streets come to me as a hysterical election gesture. We will not help the Ukrainian refugees and will bring a lot of worries to the citizens of Prague with the exchange of documents. I’m really not pro-Russian, but I don’t think Konev can hold for Putin. Konev was a Soviet marshal and we want, or not, to liberate our country from Nazi Germany is threatened. In my opinion, Hřib and his group are quite worried at the municipality in connection with the current case surrounding Petr Hlubuček and should rather take care of how to clean up city companies from mafia corruption practices. If the street is to be renamed in the future, have this process duly discussed by the commission and the committee and approved by the new council, which will not be driven by the gain of pre-election sympathies.
Jan Čižinský (Prague himself)
If it is a proposal of the city district and discussed it, there is no reason not to approve it.
Viktor Mahrik (Pirates)
In view of the positive opinion of the topographical commission and the request of the city district, I will vote in favor of renaming it. Similarly, we have already voted in the council to revoke the honorary citizenship of Marshal Konev, who was subsequently approved. The mayor also contacted the Minister of the Interior about the possibilities of a new law, so that citizens could keep the existing identity card until the end of its period of validity in the event of renaming the street in which they live …
Zdeněk Zajíček (Chairman of the ODS Representative Club)
Although I think that most people now deal mainly with the complex issues of everyday life, mainly related to rising energy prices, it is very important in the long run to create positive symbols, traditions and build national pride. Therefore, streets, avenues and squares could and should be named far more after Czech personalities. I believe that the first mayor of Žižkov, Karel Hartig, a prominent Czech builder and patriot, was this personality. But it will be important how they can develop Žižkov’s memory of their first mayor. So that it doesn’t happen, which is unfortunately not the only thing that people read the names of streets and squares, but most of the time I have no idea what they are named after. But it is also our task to discover such personalities and to remind the public.
