Minister convinced himself of the construction progress – University of Innsbruck
Minister of Science Martin Polaschek visited the new university building on the Innrain campus of the University of Innsbruck together with State Councilor for Science Annette Leja, representatives of the Bundesimmobiliengesellschaft (BIG) and Rector Tilmann Märk.
As part of a working visit to the University of Innsbruck, Minister of Education, Science and Research Martin Polaschek took the opportunity to take a first look at the university building currently being built on the Innrain campus and to see the construction progress for himself. Various units of the humanities, cultural and social science faculties as well as administrative facilities and a library area will be found in the new multifunctional building. The building is of particular importance for the university campus and university life in Innsbruck. Eseds the campus and completes it in particular with many open spaces. The flexible floor plan of the building is the basis for being able to react quickly to future, ever faster changing requirements of modern university operations. In addition, there will be a new type of canteen for which the University of Innsbruck has founded its own operating company and which will not only provide catering for university members, but will also be a place for employees and their guests to meet and network.
Important for Innsbruck as a science location
Minister Polaschek said she was integrated with the new building: “This new building offers the University of Innsbruck even better conditions to further develop its excellent teaching and research achievements. This is in line with our goal of creating the best possible conditions for research and teaching in Austria and strengthening our research facilities.”
The Science Minister Annette Leja takes a similar view: “It is a great advantage for a country to have a research-strong and internationally networked university, as this is one of the basic requirements for a region to be able to move economically and intellectually successfully into the future. Research and thinking need the appropriate space and this is created through good cooperation between the federal government, the state and the city of Innsbruck, not least with this new building.”
Rector Tilmann Märk was pleased with the building, its concept and the rapid construction progress: “I really liked the design of this new building and this has now been confirmed in person. The building opens up good and additional opportunities for us. The new Audimax with its 600 seats and the second large lecture hall with another 200 seats create a lot of space for the transfer of knowledge. I am also convinced that the new canteen concept will be successful. And I am particularly pleased that, after a long period of preparation, we are now very well on schedule with the construction and that our complex planning is also working well.”
The new building with its around 13,000 m2 Usable area is to be completed in the next few months and regular operations will begin next spring.
