The men’s under-18 football team was eliminated today in the group stage, after losing 2-0 to Greece, on the third and final round, finishing third in group B with three points.
Two goals from Koutsias, in the 6th and 78th minutes, settled the dispute and “Italy and Turkey, three Portugal in third, with the same points as the Greeks and one Turks.
The coach, José Milheiro, complains about the “bad conditions of the turf” at the Ahmed Zabana Stadium, in addition to the “mu adversities” that equipped it locally.
“We have a lot of confidence in the competence of this generation and we will certainly have a good response in the next sporting challenges”, he added.
In all, there are eight Portuguese medals in Oran’2022, five just today, with the gold of the cyclist Rafael Reis in cycling, the silver of Jieni Shao and the bronze of João Geraldo, both in table tennis, the silver by Lorène Bazolo in the 100 meters and bronze in the triple jump by Tiago Pereira.
Jieni Shao had already won bronze alongside Inês Matos and Matilde Pinto in the team tournament, as Geraldo won silver with João Monteiro and Diogo Chen, and gymnast Filipa Martins was third in the uneven bars final.
The Oran’2022 Mediterranean Games were launched on Saturday and will run until July 6th, with more than three thousand athletes from 26 different countries, including 159 Portuguese in 20 disciplines.
