The Haute-Garonne firefighters most often go straight to the point. This allows them to save lives or preserve homes when fire threatens.
Three meters under water
This Thursday, June 30, 2022, for them, it was rather a straight shot.
While they were practicing diving in the Garonne, as part of a training session, at the Filters meadow in the center of Toulouse, the firefighters came face to face with … a shell.
Firefighters say:
“It was around 4:41 p.m. when we spotted this shell when our divers found themselves about three meters deep, at the level of the Filter meadow, 200 meters from the Pont Neuf. We also called the demining service which, after examining the shell, revealed that there was no risk. For the time being, the shell therefore remains in its place, in the Garonne, and the demining service will come back replaced”.
It will happen regularly
Shells that are found in the heart of Toulouse, this happens regularly. It must indeed be remembered that the Pink City was bombed during the Second World War.
In 2018, a shell was found during the Ramblas de Jean-Jaurès construction site. The following year, it was on the site of the old Latécoère halls in Montaudran that a similar object had been unearthed.
In June 2021, it was in an area under construction near the Mirail public finance center that a shell was discovered, requiring the evacuation of the area.
