CHIO 5*? of Aachen – Belgium 2nd in the Nations Cup behind Germany
Belgium took 2nd place in the Nations Cup contested on Thursday evening as part of the prestigious CHIO 5 * in Aachen, the Wimbledon of horse riding, which brought together no less than 40,000 spectators.
Nicola Philippaerts (Katanga), Wilm Vermeir (IQ) and the two Olympians with their star mount Jérôme Guéry (Quel Homme de Hus) and Grégory Wathelet (Nevados S) totaled 8 points. Guéry achieved two clear rounds. Philippaerts conceded 4 points in the first course, Wathelet, which was the last Belgian rider in the running, 4 more in the second at the penultimate obstacle. The 8 and 5 points conceded by Vermeir were not taken into account. Peter Weinberg’s men were only defeated by Germany who fielded Jana Wargers (Limbridge), Christian Kukuk (Mumbai), Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann (Messi) and André Thieme (Chakaria) and conceded 5 points. Great Britain, also 8 points, had to settle for bronze with Ben Mahrer (Faltic), Harry Charles (Romeo), Scott Brash (Hello Jefferson) and John Whitaker (Equine America). This event endowed with 1 million euros (Belgium called 200,000) was a last big rehearsal before the world championships in Herning, Denmark, organized from August 6 to 14. (Belgian)
