Albert II of Monaco and Victoria of Sweden in Lisbon for the defense of the oceans and the sea
From June 27 to July 1, 2022, the United Nations Ocean Conference takes place in Lisbon. The event was attended by two royalty who defended the preservation of the seas. Prince Albert II of Monaco was present in the Portuguese capital to inaugurate a conference, and Crown Princess Victoria attended several events on the theme.

Prince Albert II of Monaco in Portugal to defend the oceans
After his stay in Norway with Princess Charlene in the footsteps of explorer Prince Albert 1st, Prince Albert II of Monaco headed for Portugal. Crown Princess Victoria, who is preparing to spend her family summer vacation on the island of Öland, has also taken the direction of Lisbon. Prince Albert attended the Ocean Innovators Platform which took place on June 28, 2022. This event was organized within the framework of the United Nations Ocean Conference, which takes place from June 27 to July 1.
This was a second edition for this platform. It was opened by a speech by Prince Albert of Monaco, in the presence of a high-level panel. “On this occasion, they were able to share their approach on how we can accelerate and amplify the development of innovative solutions to the major problems affecting the global ocean”explains it Prince Albert II Foundation.

“The Poles concentrate, like a laboratory, most of the questions we face when it comes to acting for the oceans. But it also offers prospects for solutions, in particular through a certain number of lines of work whose effectiveness we know”, said Prince Albert II. A few hours after uttering these words, the Prince of Monaco’s tour continued as he headed for Oran, where he was expected to attend the Mediterranean Games competitions.

Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden meets Albert II in Lisbon
For her part, Crown Princess Victoria attended the United Nations Conference on the Sea in Lisbon on June 28 and 29. From 2016 to 2019, Crown Princess Victoria was the UN Secretary General’s Ambassador for the Global Sustainable Development Goals. Her mission completed, she is now Ambassador Emeritus. The Sea Conference follows the World Ocean Conference 2017, of which Sweden and Fiji were the initiators. The aim of the Maritime Conference is to seek solutions for the sustainable management of the world’s oceans. Kenya and Portugal are co-hosts of this year’s maritime conference.
The Crown Princess began her visit by attending an event on how fisheries funding can be channeled towards a blue economy by providing the conditions for laudable offshore investments. Afterwards, the Crown Princess took part in another conference where Sweden and Finland showed how these countries are at the forefront of developing sustainable shipping solutions. Then the Crown Princess met a researcher who is working on the subject.
On her second day in Portugal, the Crown Princess attended the Marine Conference. A breakfast was organized by the International Coral Reef Initiative which described the measures needed to save the coral reefs and an action plan was presented for the next three years. Prince Albert II of Monaco sat alongside Crown Princess Victoria at the event.
During the day, Victoria participated in the launch of the SeaBOS (Seafood Business for Ocean Stewardship) report. It is a collaboration between researchers and ten of the world’s largest seafood companies to think about sustainable seafood production.
In the afternoon of June 29, Crown Princess Victoria granted herself a little moment of discovery, after meeting Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa during an audience at the presidential palace. The Crown Princess visited the Hyeronimites Monastery. In the evening, the Crown Princess attended a very select dinner with friends of the ocean at the Lisbon Oceanarium.
