Vote of confidence, fire in Paris, fuel prices: the information to remember this afternoon
The info not to miss
Will the Prime Minister dare to rely on elected officials? While the deputies are making their mark in the National Assembly, by appointing their vice-presidents, quaestors and secretaries this Wednesday, custom would have Elisabeth Borne end this opening sequence of the Assembly of the XVIth legislature by submitting to a vote of confidence. But nothing obliges him to do so, and the absence of an absolute majority plays against him.
The days have passed and this choice seems to be becoming more and more difficult for the executive. So much so that this Wednesday morning, a decree published in the Official Journal came to relaunch a debate which, according to the executive, would not be settled. The text simply begs the question. With the Parisian, Matignon specifies that “at this stage, everything is on the table, but the decree does not give this information”. A vagueness that did not maintain the document published in 2017…
What else to remember
- Bruno Le Maire plans to extend the rebate of 18 cents. In an interview with Les Echos, the Minister of the Economy assures that the government could keep the fuel discount alive and not disconnect it before the end of the year, just like the ecological bonus paid on the purchase of an electric vehicle. A stone is added to the dam against inflation, while the pressure is increasing on the public accounts.
- Heated tobacco: Brussels wants to ban flavored tastes. The European Commission proposed on Wednesday to ban the sale of flavored heated tobacco products in the 27 EU countries, in order to curb this practice which is developing among young people. “Nine out of ten lung cancers being caused by tobacco, we want to make tobacco as unattractive as possible”, justified in a press release the European Commissioner for Health, Stella Kyriakides.
- The United States then sends its troops to Europe. On the sidelines of the NATO summit in Madrid on Wednesday, US President Joe Biden announced that the United States would “strengthen its military positioning in Europe” so that NATO could “respond to threats coming from all directions and in all areas: land, air and sea”. Will the Alliance also expand? Late Tuesday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan gave his consent for Sweden and Finland to join.
- Rue Longchamp in flames. A fire was in progress this Wednesday morning at 66 rue de Longchamp in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, not far from the Trocadéro. According to information from Le Parisien, there are a dozen injured, including three in absolute emergency. Two victims jumped out to escape the flames.
- November 13, the hour of the verdict. Justice had never dealt with events of this magnitude and this duration. Historic, the historic trial is coming to an end. The verdict is expected this Wednesday evening, and will be broadcast live from 5 p.m. on our site.
