Vaccari News – Dragonfly over Vienna
New stage of the notched path concerning modern architecture in Austria. Cites the “Mq libelle”, from which you can admire the panorama of the city
Inaugurated in 2020, the “Mq libelle” is a work of art in its own right, located on the roof of the Leopold museum in Vienna from which you can enjoy the panorama of the city center. It was created by Laurids Ortner, who collaborated with Manfred Ortner in the late 1990s to redesign the Museums Quartier area. The large terrace, combined with a space for artistic and cultural projects as well as for events, is accessible free of charge via external lifts.
The facade is due to Eva Schlegel. The crystal “points” and millions of white elements make the glass appear as a light veil, which accentuates the impression of a dragonfly. The three ring-shaped light fixtures that float on inclined pillars were created by the recently deceased Brigitte Kowanz.
The structure is compared in the latest postage stamp that Austria dedicated to modern architecture. From € 1.80, it is worked thanks to the intervention of Karin Klier. It was issued yesterday, for philatelists in advance of June 3.
