The place of men and boys in gender equality policies: meeting of the working group and publication of a study
The Council of Europe working group on the place of men and boys in gender equality policies and in policies to combat violence against women held its second meeting on 28 June 2022 in Strasbourg and online. The members of the Working Group – representing six Member States and two NGOs with observer status with the Commission for Equality between Women and Men – finalized their discussions on the draft Guidelines on the place of men and boys in gender equality policies and policies to combat violence against women. Issues addressed in the draft guidelines include the equal sharing of care work between women and men, the role of men as agents of change to promote gender equality, the impact of social norms and sexist stereotypes about men and boys and strengthening the role of men in the fight against violence against women. After an internal and external consultation process, the final version of the draft Guidelines will be discussed and adopted by the Committee for Equality between Women and Men at its plenary meeting in November 2022.
The Council of Europe’s Gender Equality Division has also just published a Study on the places of men and boys in women’s rights and gender equality policies . Prepared by two independent experts, the study provides an overview of existing research, policies and activities regarding the different roles of men and boys in promoting gender equality.
