The Exmo. The Bilbao Bullfighting Club celebrates the recital “Miguel Hernández and Manolete: verses, bulls and bullfighters”
This Tuesday was held in the hall of the Hon. Bilbao Bullfighting Club the poetry recital “Miguel Hernández y Manolete: verses, bulls and bullfighters”, in collaboration with the Association of Friends of the Plaza de Toros de Almadén and framed in the Cycle of Conferences and Colloquiums 2022.
The recital began with a brief presentation by the member of the Board of Hon. Club Taurino, Gabriel Rodrigo, on Miguel Hernández on the 80th anniversary of his death, as well as the importance of bullfighting in the poet, who, as he comments in his exposition, “a little while investigating his work, it can be seen that the Bullfighting is one of the most repeated motifs, like a metaphorical obsession that never leaves him”.
Miguel Rayo then intervened to also give an account of the bullfighter Manolete, his importance in the world of bullfighting along with Juan Belmonte, as well as his death, whose anniversary this year marks 75 years.
Next, the recital began with the magnificent explosions of the rhapsode and the poet Manoli Álvarez and the poet and rhapsode Miguel Rayo, who interpreted poems by Miguel Hernández corresponding to the poems “El rayo que no cesa”, “Viento del pueblo” and “El hombre acecha”, highlighting among these the poems “Aceituneros”, “Sentad sobre los muertos” or “Elegía a Ramón Sijé”, masterfully recited in unison by both rhapsodists, producing the applause of the respectable. The series of recited poems continues with a “bullfighting” series of poems written by Miguel Rayo, among which “Spring will return”, “Iván Fandiño goes to heaven” and “Loa a Manolete”, all recited by both rhapsodists. The recital was accompanied at all times by the guitarists Enrique “El Vaca” and Juan Darío “Kokotxa”.
