Civil defense alarm has now also been declared in Salzburg. A fire truck was involved in an accident. There are serious injuries.
As early as June, Austria had to deal with the first storm disaster, which was even reported by the international media. The area of the Gurgtal Alps is particularly affected. In the area around Treffen am Ossiacher See, several (federal) roads have been completely relocated, and the railway line between Feldkirchen and Villach is also impassable.
As in meetings, the civil defense alarm was also raised in Arriach in the early hours of the morning. The sirens wailed continuously for three minutes, the population should not leave their homes. This is not possible at all for many residents in Arriach.
situation worsens
You are currently completely cut off from the outside world. Several people had to be rescued by helicopter, one could be rescued from the rubble. However, two residents are said to be missing. The army is with around 100 pioneers in the assistance operation.
Mudslides – First place cut off from the outside world
More heavy rain is to be expected this Wednesday, the UBIMET Severe Weather Center has issued a red warning level. This obviously means that the situation in Lungau, which borders on the Nockberge, is also getting serious.
Alarm also in Salzburg
“ATTENTION, ATTENTION, important information for the residents of Tamsweg especially for the lower market area,” says a report from the state of Salzburg. A civil defense alarm was raised in the district capital on Wednesday afternoon. “The Leißnitzbach is flooded,” is also the reason for the warning.
“The population is asked to stay in their houses, not to enter underground car parks and cellars and to stay away from the banks and bridges. The instructions of the authorities and emergency services on site must be followed.”
Fire engine crashed
Apparently there were several mudslides here too. The route of the Murtalbahn between Tamsweg and Murau is currently also impassable due to storm damage. A rail replacement service was set up.
One of these mudslides may also have resulted in a fully occupied fire truck from the Mittersill volunteer fire brigade having an accident. As “salzburg.orf.at” reported, six people were injured, two of them seriously. But there is no danger to life.
