RTL Today – Luxembourg: Here is the new look of Luxair’s Boeing
To celebrate its 60th anniversary, Luxair has revamped one of its machines by Luxembourg artist Marco Weiten.
After graffiti artist SUMO, it’s Marco Weiten’s turn to give color to Luxair planes! To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Luxembourg airline, the artist has made the traditional Roude Léiw a phoenix rising from its ashes. The result is particularly colorful!
Luxair had launched a call to artists from Luxembourg and the Greater Region on February 28 to imagine its next special outing. It was about “draw their vision of the future of the airline, while highlighting the values of inclusion, diversity, audacity and innovation” explains the airline.
More than sixty works have been recorded. The winner, Marco Weiten, was elected by a professional jury of artists and art experts as well as by the management of Luxair.
The plane in question is a Boeing 737-800 “Anniversary edition” and is part of the #FlyingIsAnArt operation, which is celebrating its third edition. It took off for the first time in its new colors this Wednesday, heading for Tenerife.
“The colors of Luxair run symbolically different through the decades and unite in a strong Luxembourg symbol, the red lion. It represents a Luxembourg tradition, but here it is reborn from its ashes like a phoenix and all the colors converge in it, the dawn of a fantastic future. Together, we are a positive sign of respect, competence, teaching and practice”commented artist Marco Weiten.
The first Luxair flight took place on March 31, 1962 to Paris Le-Bourget.
