The elected officials of the Métropole de Lyon have recorded the results of the consultation and the project for the redevelopment of the right bank of the rhône. Pedestrianization, reduction of the place of the car, more green spaces, we take stock.
Many Grands Lyonnais took part in the consultation. In total, 1,223 responses to the questionnaire and 376 contributions to the suggestion box were received on the Métropole’s digital platform.
A controversy over the place of the car
Three major concerns stand out:
- a controversy over mobility and the place of the car, with the need to preserve the attractiveness and access to the city center
- a consensus to put nature back in the heart of the city, with the importance of offering a living space, combining leisure, relaxation, freshness and promoting biodiversity
- the need to have a global vision of the entire Presqu’île, with consistency in all areas (travel, town planning, housing, shops, etc.) and by linking the “Right Bank” and “Presqu’île appeasement” projects “.
A specific site south of Bellecour and north of Cordeliers
That being said, Greater Lyon has taken note of the opinions of the population. The redevelopment project for the right bank of the Rhône now includes a dedicated site for public transport to the south of Bellecour and another north of Cordeliers. The TCLs will therefore have a lane reserved for them at these two key locations on the Presqu’Île.
The Grands Lyonnais showed it during the consultation: they fear that the reduction in space for the car will have a direct impact on the attractiveness and access to the city centre. Heard by the elected environmentalists of the Metropolis, the latter nevertheless acted to withdraw a certain number of traffic lanes reserved for motorists.
Fewer cars to green and widen pedestrian spaces
A measure that will further green the right bank and expand pedestrian areas. It was also retained the intervention on the bridges and the reflection on the link between the Peninsula and the river.
The competitive dialogue with a view to appointing the prime contractor is underway. “It makes it possible to build and develop the project throughout the procedure”, indicates Grand Lyon. After a year, in the spring of 2023, the project management contract will be signed.
The first transitional urban planning developments will take place in 2024-2025. Their goal is to “test and prefigure some on the right bank”. It will follow with final work on the first section selected.
