Austria: doctor closes practice after threats from vaccine skeptics | news
WELS (dpa-AFX) – An Austrian doctor closed her practice after death threats against her and thus caused a stir. The doctor, who works in Oberstreich, explains on her website that she has been receiving threatening letters “from the Covid measures opponents and vaccination opponents scene” for seven months and can no longer afford the costs for security measures. Representatives of various parties criticized the police for their handling of the case. “We demand answers!” Said Social Democrat Sabine Schatz on Wednesday, announcing a parliamentary question to conservative Interior Minister Gerhard Karner.
The threatening letter described in detail how the author could come to the practice to follow and kill the doctor and her staff. According to a spokeswoman for the public prosecutor’s office in Wels, preliminary proceedings against a German were discontinued in mid-June “due to a lack of domestic jurisdiction”. The spokeswoman for the German Press Agency could not name the exact reasons for the setting.
A police spokesman drew criticism from politicians and Twitter users after saying in a radio interview that the doctor had constantly tried “to present the case very, very dramatically”. No threat is currently to be expected./al/DP/men
