Russian oil, straight from Geneva – how much longer will that be good?
Swiss companies continue to benefit from trading oil from Russia. You are moving in a moral gray area.
The companies are called Amur Trading or Paramount Energy, their headquarters are in Geneva, their business model is commodities. Among other things, they trade in Russian oil – and this continues to be traded on a large scale, despite war and sanctions. Around 20 companies based in Switzerland are selling even more Russian oil than before the war. At the moment this deal is tolerated in Geneva.
But is that legal? Does Switzerland risk damage to its reputation here? Sylvain Besson from the Tamedia research desk talks about this in a new episode of the “Apropos” podcast. The host is Philipp Loser.
