Airplane, Pas-de-Calais: Proud of this victory

Several hundred activists and supporters took part in the campaign. It was done with respect for our differences, in good humor and fraternity. The good words about the campaign were numerous and from all political formations.
It took a miner’s son, Jean-Marc Tellier, a long-time communist elected from the mining basin, supported by the united left, to regain a seat as a deputy in the National Rally. A unique case in France, in Pas-de-Calais, which has nevertheless become the stronghold of the far-right party.
But in the third constituency of Pas-de-Calais, in the heart of the mining basin, a man managed to break this dynamic in the face of a young RN: Jean-Marc Tellier, 52, elected municipal official for a quarter of a century and mayor of Plane (near Lens) since 2009.
Marine Le Pen’s party now has six elected members out of the 12 constituencies of the department, one more than in 2017. And there are 20 in total in Hauts-de-France, against 6 during the previous term.
Recipe ? “A local campaign, from the field”, advances this ex-responsible for the Pioneers of France, a youth movement linked to the PCF, who receives in jeans and a T-shirt in an office without frills.
J.-M. Tellier provided during his campaign with the active support of 12 of the 13 mayors in his constituency, all of them on the left, and with the ability to mobilize a partisan apparatus still in place.
Jean-Marc Tellier is in the lead in 4 cities out of 13: in Lens, Sallaumines, Avion and Méricourt. The score in Airplane is 65.27%, and in the constituency 50.11%. The abstention is 58.33%, almost identical to the first round.
Jean-Marc wins with a 71-vote lead in the second round, but above all he will get the 947 votes he was behind in the first round.
It is safe to say that the Republican report was not made. Blanks and draws went from 743 to 2,150.
Jean-Marc will seek 4,191 additional votes and the RN 3,173 (candidate Zemmour won 826 votes in the first round). There is no longer a sanitary cordon around the RN. Moreover, we can clearly see this with the declarations concerning the chairmanship of the Finance Committee.
Here, the militants and comrades are very proud of this victory. It is historic. Never had a communist been a deputy for the constituency of Lens. Lens, capital of the mining basin.
Jean-Marc Tellier will be keen to support the group’s positions in the National Assembly, and will work locally to obtain a university hospital in Lens, in particular to train doctors and fight against medical deserts in the Pas-de-Calais, d accelerate the renovation of mining sites and continue its fight against energy cuts.
