VIENNA

Vienna the best city in the world to live

Sugar Mizzy June 28, 2022

The Economist ranking says so. Italy only 49th with Milan

“Stability And good infrastructure are the main charm of the city for its inhabitants, supported by one good health care and from numerous opportunities for culture and entertainment “.
It is with this motivation that the research and analysis unit (Eiu) of the English Economist week assigned to the Austrian capital Vienna ranks first in the 2022 ranking of the world’s most liveable cities among 172 regarding “business destination”, “economic and financial center” or with a strong visitor demand.

Covid and the Economist ranking

Vienna has risen from 12th place in 2021, recovering the first position, already occupied in 2018 and 2019, against the New Zealander Auckland, which had soared last year and is now 34th, immediately behind London. an accident, in the last 2 graduates, it was undoubtedly Covid.
In 2021, the strong restrictions still in force for the had penalized the cities, with only the Swiss pandemics Zurich and Geneva (then respectively 7th and 8th, today in 3rd and 6th place) in the top ten.
In contrast, the current extension of the lockdown in the southern hemisphere has now revived the Old Continent and Canadathat monopolize the top 9 positions.
To find other 2 confirmations from last year in the top positions we need to get to 10th placeshared by the Japanese Ōsaka (epoch 2 ^) and from Melbourne (was 9 ^), the only Australian city remaining in the top ten, given the backward step of Adelaide (from 3 ^ to 30 ^), Perth (from 6 ^ to 32 ^) and Brisbane (from 10 ^ to 27 ^), together with that of the New Zealand capitals Wellington and Japanese Tokyo.

The best cities of 2022

Behind Vienna another European capital, the Danish, has now positioned itself Copenhagen.
The third step of the podium it is instead shared by the aforementioned Zurich and the Canadian Calgary.
The North American country also squares Vancouver on 5th place and Toronto at 8° (Montreal is 23 ^ instead).
Finally, to complete the new top ten are the German Frankfurt (7 ^) and the capital of the Netherlands Amsterdam, located in 9th square.

Amsterdam

The change in trend globally has a relative impact with regard to Italian citieswho have to be satisfied with the support positions.
In 2021, the best was Rome, which however had dropped to 57th place. Now, the our city considered more livable from the Economist Intelligence Unit is instead Milan, to which the 49 ^ position in the general classification. However, a better result than other major cities in the world, such as New York (51 ^) and Beijing (71 ^).

Who goes up and who goes down

In addition to Frankfurt, growing by about thirty positions, the improvement of Germany is also confirmed by the performance of Hamburg (16 ^) and Dusseldorf (22 ^).
Uphillof 23 locations, including the French capital Parisnow 19th, and the capital of Belgium Brussels24 ^.
In reverse, Spain pulls backwith Barcelona (35 ^) still ahead of the capital Madrid (43 ^), even if both do worse than the result of 2021, which had seen them 16 ^ and 19 ^ respectively.
A separate discussion must be made for the blows of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Sanctions have slipped Moscow in 80th place, losing 15, with St. Petersburg also losing 13 places. For the Ukrainian capital Kiev, on the other hand, it was impossible for those responsible for the research to complete the reconnaissance due to the Russian invasion and the city was excluded from the classification (like Beirut, in this case due to the strong tension that is experienced in the capital of Lebanon ).

The last 10

The cities included in the degree increased from 140 to 172. Always for war reasons, in the last place however, the capital of Syria has been confirmed as the less livable metropolis, Damascus. Social unrest also affects the negative performance of the Nigerian Lagos, 171 ^and Libya Tripoli, 170 ^.
Going up from the bottom, we find the capital of Algeria, Algiers, at the 169th place, Karachi (Pakistan) al 168 °Port Moresby (Papua New Guinea) at 167th, Dhaka (Bangladesh) at 166th, Harare (Zimbabwe) at 165th, Douala (Cameroon) at 164th) and, in 163th place, the Iranian capital Tehran.
