Paris: call for a strike in swimming pools this summer
A call for a strike was launched by the municipal agents of the City of Paris who worked in the swimming pools of the capital. A strike notice has just been filed by the CGT for the whole summer.
Water in the gas between them and the City. A strike could well disrupt the opening of Parisian municipal swimming pools this summer, when the CGT has just announced that it has “filed a strike notice for all the agents of the Department of Youth and Sports (DJS) of the July 1 to August 31.
Swimming pools closed en masse
This Tuesday, June 28 already, 9 of the 43 municipal swimming pools were closed, some of which had remained closed for many months, such as the Château-Landon swimming pool (10th). A little taste of what could happen this summer, if the agents decide to mobilize en masse.
“Despite our repeated calls for negotiation, despite months of mobilizations, the City – in this case our management – remains deaf to the demands of the agents”, explains the CGT in a press release.
According to the union, “the hardship of screen work is not recognized for administrative staff and supervisors”, “shift work should be valued more for staff in stadiums and gymnasiums” and “the capacity of the environment to work is denied for the agents of the swimming pools and basin-schools”.
The agents of the City of Paris are also allied “to the increase in working time”, and denounce “wages lower than ever with galloping inflation”. “Our management must urgently review its copy and offer us as soon as possible to enter into real negotiations if it wants to avoid major disruptions for Parisians this summer”, they threaten.
A threat which could indeed be particularly restrictive if it were carried out, given the strong heat experienced by the capital at the start of summer, and while many activities – as part of Paris Plages which are due to open from July 9 to August 9 – are organized around swimming pools, precisely monitored by city officials.
