This is another important step for thehuge construction site of development undertaken for several months in the south of Toulousein the commercial area of Portet-sur-Garonne.

A few months after the opening of a new access ramp to clear the traffic jams in the area, it is the turn of the works of the future big roundabout to serve the entire shopping center from the road to Spain to begin. the first plow was given this Monday, June 27, 2022.

Several facilities

This roundabout with a diameter ofabout 60 meters Should facilitate traffic flow in the area, particularly in the commercial sector. Two pedestrian spaces will also be developed on the edge of the roundabout, which did not exist until then.

In particular, this will make it possible to establish a clearer link between the heart of the city and the shopping center, which are largely separated in the current road network. Started this Monday, June 27, 2022, the construction site must continue until the end of the year. “We are on schedule for the moment”, welcome Thierry SuaudMayor of Portet, and André Mandementpresident of Muretain Agglo.

Project cost: €12 million

Costing 12 million euros (including 8 million euros from private funds), this project is the subject of a public-private partnership between the City of Portet, the Muretain Agglo and the Departmental Council of Haute-Garonne , but also the Carrefour group and Klepierre (manager of the shopping center).

Construction is expected to be completed by December 2022.

A first phase completed in 2021

The creation of the new ramp offers the possibility of reaching the shopping center since the end of 2021 with direct access right off the A64. A significant contribution which initially made it possible to reduce the effects of traffic jams around one of the most saturated areas of the territory.

“It’s a great job, a huge project. This step is very important for us after several months of work, particularly on the modernization of the Boulevard de l’Europe. »

Thierry SuaudMayor of Portet-sur-Garonne

Since March 2022, a new phase has been initiated with the project to develop cycle and pedestrian paths along the boulevard de l’Europe (including the bridge over the route d’Espagne), and on the avenue de Palanques. The transformation and modernization of the surroundings of shops is also at the heart of the concerns.

Thierry Suaud, Mayor of Portet-sur-Garonne, presented the project alongside André Mandement, President of Muretain Agglo, Alain Delsol, Vice-President of Muretain Agglo and Gérard Montariol, Deputy Mayor of Portet-sur-Garonne.

What disruptions to expect?

Since yesterday and the first groundbreaking at the crossroads of the RD 120 and 63, near Darty, the site has taken a completely different turn, particularly in terms of the disturbances it should produce.

If it should facilitate access to the area – it will no longer be necessary to climb the Carrefour bridge to reach the road to Spain – this new construction site will not be without consequences for motorists accustomed to the area.

“Traffic will be maintained in both directions. However, it will be reduced to one lane in both directions. »

Mr. Rhodeproject owner

For the moment, only the direction Toulouse-Muret of the Spain road is subject to this restriction. “It will be the case in the other direction, probably from September,” says the side of the team in charge of the site. Do not panic therefore, but precautions to take when taking this major axis of the Toulouse conurbation. Once the construction site is finished, we will have to deal with this large-scale roundabout directly integrated into the overall construction site around the shopping centre.
