Let’s go for the Monegasque delegation in Oran
The opening ceremony of the 19th edition of the Mediterranean Games was held on Saturday evening at the stadium of the Miloud-Hadefi Olympic complex in Oran (Algeria).
Xiaoxin Yang and Lucas Catarina both proudly carried the flag of the Monegasque delegation which paraded in front of nearly 4,000 spectators, in the presence of the Algerian President, Abdelmajid Tebboune.
The Emir of Qatar, Tamim Ben Hamad Al Thani, owner of Paris Saint-Germain, was also present in the stands.
Some Monegasque athletes already in the running
The day after this grand opening ceremony, the first competitions took place, with in particular the entry into the running of the Monegasque bowlers.
After losing (13-1) on Sunday against the Spaniards, the men’s doublet composed of Claude (father) and Guillaume (son) Campillo almost recovered on Monday against the Italians. But despite a good advantage (12-5), the Monegasques saw the Transalpins come back and win the game on the wire (13-12).

In precision shooting, Sabrina Campillo failed to qualify for the semi-finals, while Guillaume Campillo stopped in the quarter-finals. In sailing (laser), Jérémy Moutout also competed in his first two races on Monday.
This Tuesday, Xioaxin Yang (table tennis) and Lucas Catarina (tennis, top seed) start their tournament. Four years ago, in Tarragona (Spain), they won the silver medal. It is in racket sports that the Principality has its greatest hopes for medals in these 2022 Mediterranean Games.
