‘It’s not about one organization’
This year, 22 shootings have already taken place in the Brussels region, one of which resulted in a fatality. The Brussels public prosecutor’s office, together with the federal police and the various local police zones, stated this on another Tuesday. The investigations into the incidents are difficult, because the circumstances between them differ.
Between January 1 and June 22, a total of 22 shootings took place in Brussels. One with a death, fourteen with one injured, one with two injured and six with no injuries. In cases it concerns street gangs and in other cases local incidents. In some files a link can be made with Sky ECC and in one case there is a link with the Albanian mafia.
‘They are not in the same context, it is not about one movement organization that is behind every incident. It concerns different individual facts and clusters. The events are diverse. Sometimes it is about street dealers and their territorial struggle, sometimes the context is not clear,’ said Tim De Wolf, Public Prosecutor of Brussels.
The law enforcement authorities see that the presentation of the shooting incidents can be linked to drug trafficking. It is also noticeable that they hardly want, although they know the details, of their development in the drug environment. That complicates the investigation.
