Hackers demand millions from Artis, IT systems are down
Zoo Artis in Amsterdam is the result of a cyber attack. Hackers have invaded the network and demanded a million euros from the zoo.
Artis has reported the matter to the police and is being advised by a cybercrime specialist. It is still unclear who is behind the cyber attack. The IT systems are down.
“Immediate measures have been taken to prevent further access to our systems in order to stop the digital attack,” the zoo said in a statement. “Because it is not yet clear who has access to personal data and e-mail traffic, a report has been made to ARTIS as a precaution, this situation is extremely serious and will determine the correct next steps together with external parties.”
External ICT partner
Artis was appointed by the external ICT partner. “When this became clear, a scale of our crisis team was immediately available at the highest level. Also our own IT department equipped with specialists in the field of cybercrime.”
ARTIS-Micropia and the ARTIS-Groote Museum were closed to the public today, but will be open according to opening hours tomorrow. ARTIS-Park is open as usual, just like today.
