Government recognizes levels of extreme drought in mainland Portugal
Official recognition of the situation aims to minimize the negative impact on agricultural activity and farmers’ income.
The government passes or passes that mainland Portugal is in a situation of extreme agriculture, with consequences mainly in the agricultural sector. In May, mainland Portugal had 97.1% of the territory at the level of severe drought and 1.4% at the level of extreme drought. “This situation worsened in the first half of June with the entire continental territory being severe or extreme”, document.
In addition, on June 15, the hydrological year 2021/22 shows an accumulated rainfall deficit of 408 millimeters lower than the normal value, according to the order. Likewise, it refers to the large drop in water volumes in most hydrographic basins.
