GD Resende: «We were invited to participate in the Portuguese Championship on our own merit»
In an interview with Viseu Now, Horácio Bernardino, President of Grupo Desportivo de Rese GDR), considers the 2021/22 season the best ever, which culminates in the unprecedented feat of ascension to the national championships.
It is recalled that the team from Resende finished the Division in second place, behind Honra de Mortágua Futebol Clube, proven its presence in the Ferreira Portugal Championship, due to the Vespera de Aves to the districts, following the absence of minimum resources of the club from municipality of Sátão to participate in the competition.
The leader of the Reendenses will probably be in the Portuguese Championship for «own merit».
«We were in second place and we are sure that all the clubs that, next season, would be mandatory to participate. It is an invitation that brings us responsibility, but with great honor, as we are present for the first time in 93 years of history, in the Portuguese Championship», says Horácio Bernardino.
As for the controversy surrounding the Certification process, the President of Resende says that it only exists, due to people “who cannot be in the exercise of their activities”, as everyone was informed about this obligation two years ago.
Certification as a three-star trainer was achieved by Resende this season. Horácio Bernardino recalls that his club is the third in the district with more athletes registered in the youth teams and that these «are not a factor of luck, but a lot of work».
“We cannot forget that we are a club located in a low-density region. We are in an area where our 18-year-olds leave the municipality to go to study and we have a lot of problems to form a junior team», he adds.
Now, a little over two months before they start participating in the Portuguese Championship, the President of Resende guarantees that the team will try to do its best, to take «the name of GD Resende and the county as far as possible».
«It will not be easy, we will be in a series of 14 teams, of which six will come down. But if we weren’t, we couldn’t do anything. Now, as we are in the Portuguese Championship, we are going to give our all to achieve maintenance», he reveals.
To guarantee a better coach, Paulo and, to Viseu Now Horácio Bernardino confirms the continuation of the Guinean forward Lounço, the team’s scorer last season, with 23 goals, and the Portuguese midfielder Dani Gonçalves.
