Event for the meadows of Poseidonia and the sand dunes on the river Epanomi
Informative event of the Region and the Municipality of Thermaikos on the Epanomi River about the importance of Poseidonia and the sand dunes
THE Region of Central Macedonia and the municipality of Thermaikos organize action on the importance of their protection Poseidonia systems and sand dunes in the area of the Epanomi River.
During the action, which will take place on Thursday 30 June 2022 at 13.00 ‘in front of Beach Bar “Akti Retzika” will distribute information material, with the aim of informing citizens about protection of coasts and biodiversity.
The Region of Central Macedonia through the project «Governance and Management of Poseidonia and Sand Dunes systems in the Mediterranean – Governance and Management of Posidonia Beach dune systems around the Mediterranean – POSBEMED2» and in collaboration with other partners have developed a map that aims to contribute to the creation of an active network of actors and citizens throughout the Mediterranean and to function as a tool to highlight the role of Poseidonia as a “treasure” of Mediterranean ecosystem factors, but also to contribute to implementation of a methodological framework of guidelines for the formulation of an overall strategic action plan at local and long-term level at national level.
The main pillar of the plan, according to the announcement, is to raise awareness and inform the local and wider community about the existence of Poseidonia on the coast, as well as the cooperation of stakeholders for the design and implementation of a plan that will include, such as information in schools, citizens and businesses, but also in particular measures for the management of Poseidonia haystacks.
The event is organized in the framework of the project “Governance and Management of Posidonia and Sand Dunes systems in the Mediterranean – Governance and Management of Posidonia Beach dune systems above the Mediterranean – POSBEMED2”, which is co-financed by the “European Territorial Program MED2010” INTERREG.
