Drugs, in the province of Pisa cocaine is the most widespread and on the rise
A Pisa and province there drug more widespread, more used and more seized is the cocaine, constantly increasing. This was stated in the annual report, 2022 with the data updated to December 2021, of the DCSA (Central Department of Drug Services) of the Interior Ministry. On the other hand, the figure for drug seizures shows a clear increase in overall volumes compared to the previous year: from 59 tons found in 2020, it rose to 91 tons in 2021, with a percentage increase of 54.04%, which , due to a significant increase in seizures of cocaine and cannabis derivatives, it represents the fourth highest since 2000 to date. The DCSA, whose main tasks include the general coordination at national level and of anti-drug investigative activities, the development of international relations, as well as the elaboration of strategic and operational analyzes, is structured on three services (general and international affairs; studies, research, information and projects; anti-drug operations). A fourth division, the planning and general coordination office, collaborates with the anti-drug policies department of the presidency of the council of ministries and with other public bodies as well as with private associations in the field of drug addiction prevention, while coordinating the initiatives of the Police Forces in the field. In 2021, 4.89% of the anti-drug operations carried out on the national territory were registered in Tuscany, 2.90% of the substances seized and 4.52% of the persons reported to the judicial authority. 31 people died from drug abuse, accounting for 10.58% of the national total. In the last decade, the highest value (43) was recorded in 2012 and 2017, the lowest in 2020 (30). In 2021, the regions most affected, in an absolute sense by the phenomenon, were Veneto, Emilia Romagna, Lombardy, Tuscany and Campania. In the last ten years, the most affected region in an absolute sense has been Emilia Romagna with 363 deaths, followed by Tuscany (351), Lazio (335), Campania (289), Veneto (286), Piedmont (278) and Lombardy (245), while Molise (9), Valle d’Aosta (14) and Basilicata (17) are confirmed among those least affected.

In Pisa, 125 people were reported to the judicial authorities, at various levels and titles, of which 44 were Italians and 81 were foreigners, and of which 4 were minors and 6 women..
