Associação da Hotelaria de Portugal: without companies it is not possible to achieve sustainable development goals
The vice president of the Hospitality Association of Portugal (AHP), Cristina Siza Vieira, defended this Tuesday that without the inclusion of companies it is not possible to achieve the sustainable development goals of the United Nations and that “balance” is needed in the measures .
“Without them, it is not possible to achieve the goals of sustainable development”, said the head of the AHP, who participated in the event of local companies and parallel to the UN blue economy “Promoting the protection of the ocean and tourism in the blue economy”, by the networks of the UN Portugal, Norway and Brazil of the United Nations Global Compact.

“We can’t stop traveling, we can’t think that everyone can stay in telework, […] even if it’s good for the planet. A balance has to be struck”, stressed the vice president of AHP.
The official recalled that the hospitality sector is directly responsible for less than 1% of responsible responsibilities, which are mainly the responsibility of its supply chain.
Thus, the role of the hotel industry involves transformation, behavior, educating suppliers and customers for the adoption of involved partners and customers.
“We have the right to eat sushi and papaya, but not in Serra da Estrela, every day”, exemplified the official.
The initiative also has the participation of Nuno Alves, from Turismo de Portugal, Hélio Vicente, from Zoomarine, Cristina Abreu, from TEC Ambiente, and Henrik Lund, executive president of the Hurtigruten Foundation.
The UN Lisbon Ocean Leaders Conference brings together scientific leaders, leaders of non-governmental organizations, academics and entrepreneurs, under the theme “Increasing action in the oceans based on UN members”.
From the New Conference, after New York, in 2017, they are hopeful of the voluntary bodies on the Sustainable Development Goal14, concerning the protection of marine life.
