Andorra reviews with the apostolic nuncio the relations between the Principality and the Holy See
They point to the “exemplary role” of small states in the face of global challenges

The Head of Government of Andorra, Xavier Espot, met this Tuesday with the Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See in Andorra, Monsignor Bernardito Cleopas Auza, to discuss different aspects of bilateral relations between the Principality and the Vatican.
The meeting, which was also attended by the Principality’s ambassador to Spain, Vicenç Mateu, took place after Espot attended the reception received on Monday in Madrid on the occasion of the X anniversary of the Pontificate of Pope Francis, reports the Executive Andorran in a statement.
During the meeting, Espot and the apostolic nuncio discussed the political and socioeconomic news, as well as the international impact that the conflict in Ukraine is having after the Covid-19 health crisis.
They also spoke of the cooperation between the two States in the environment such as “the energy transition, the challenge of sustainability and the commitment to innovation and sustainable development”.
Espot and Monsignor Bernardito Cleopas Auza agreed on “the exemplary role that small states must play in the face of global and common challenges, and especially in the fight against climate change”.
REFUGEES RECEPTION
The apostolic nuncio was interested in the coordination mechanisms deployed in Andorra to manage the arrival, reception and integration of refugees from Syria and Ukraine to facilitate their inclusion and protection, as well as to promote public awareness .
The Andorran head of government explained the collaboration that is being carried out with the Community of Sant’Egidio for the creation of the humanitarian corridor with Syria, as well as with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
Finally, Espot took the opportunity to reiterate the invitation for Cardinal Pietro Parolín, Secretary of State of the Holy See, to visit Andorra soon.
