Prague – The municipal company Výstaviště Praha, which manages the Bubeneč Exhibition Center, will receive approximately 6.76 million crowns from the city for extra work during the renovation of the Čech restaurant. The increase in the amount was necessitated by changes in the repair procedure caused by additionally discovered problems, for example with underground structures, more extensive repairs of masonry or the requirements of conservationists. This follows from a document approved today by Prague councilors. The restaurant will be repaired after today’s increase to about 110.8 million crowns. The owner of the Exhibition Grounds is the capital, which is gradually being repaired.

The progress of the work had to be adjusted after the workers only discovered the true condition of the building, which was worse than expected, when the underground structures of the building were discovered. Additionally, experts had to do waterproofing, solve the insufficient depth of the foundations and strengthen the masonry.

At the same time, the conservationists raised the required requirements when starting the work, when they demanded a different roofing than originally intended. The requirement subsequently meant that the construction of the truss, the base under the roof covering had to be changed, and it also affected the plumbing and fitting elements and the architectural facades. The project for the construction of a gastronomic operation was also modified, as the original project was more than 15 years old.

The municipal company Výstaviště Praha has leased the complex from the capital and pays its rent. Repairs in the area are then paid for by the municipality. Křižík’s pavilions and the Spiral Theater are being repaired at the Exhibition Grounds, and the repairs are expected to be completed at the end of this year. The restoration of the burned-out wing of the Industrial Palace was also started, which will take another three years or so.
