The show in Brno presents Czech and Slovak jazz without genre borders
The genre boundaries of jazz have definitely disappeared, said the patron of the show, the artistic director of the Brno JazzFest, Vilém Spilka.
The show is not open to all music fans. The publication included program directors of European festivals, dramaturg clubs, promoters and music journalists. Dozens of them arrived, said Radek Babička on behalf of the organizers. The United Kingdom, Germany, Poland and Austria have representatives in Brno.
Today and on Tuesday, selected bands play for the professional audience, which have the potential to assert themselves abroad and promote the Czech and Slovak scene. According to Spilka, the organizers often choose bands based on their own experience with their live performance. A good opportunity for the presentation is offered by the showcase format, ie shows with a quick change of bands and the possibility of immediate agreement.
After the premiere year, which the organizers dedicated to Czech and other musicians, this time the Austrian attention was paid to the educational scene in addition to the Czech scene. Bands that belong to the mainstays of Czech and Slovak jazz, as well as new projects, are presented. The jury selected from dozens of entries.
Today’s program was opened by the experimental groove-jazz group Muff, whose work, already recorded on four albums, also has psychedelic elements. This was followed by the Brno band Endemit, a trio in the classic rock cast of guitar-bass-drums.
Czech works at the show are also represented by, for example, Ochepovsky Project, Treetop and Brünnwerk. Slovakia is represented, for example, by Tibor Feledi Kairos Quintet, Kristin Lash & Jakob Gray, Pacora Trio, Altar Quintet or Sole.
