The public prosecutor’s office accuses the Salzburg-based parcel deliverer of being in the woman’s apartment after a delivery. There he grabbed her from behind, threw her on the ground and raped her. The victim initially did not put up an ad, but on January 10 installed a camera disguised as a doorbell on her front door. Recordings later secured by the police document several parcel deliveries by the accused in the weeks that followed.

Statement against statement: Video material evaluated

The videos from the day of the attempted rape, January 25, show that the man stayed in the door or in his victim’s apartment for 5 to 6 minutes. When asked by the judge, he said today that he spoke to the woman at the time because she had always been very sad and he had noticed discoveries in her – “as if she had injured her hands with a razor”. He asked her why she was explicit and touched her wrist for a few seconds. “All she said at the time was, ‘It’s fine. 4 days later the police called me and confronted me with the allegation of rape.”

The woman was not appealing to him, emphasized the father of a daughter who currently lives with her mother in Germany but is to come to Austria as part of the family reunification. “I have respect for people and for the law.” He never went into the woman’s apartment, but only stood in the doorway to pet her dogs.

Between 5 and 15 years imprisonment threatened

As his defense attorney said, there was no evidence other than the victim’s testimony. In addition, his client, who often worked 14 hours a day and delivered 150 to 200 items a day, had no time at all. However, no further delivery by the 41-year-old was documented on the day of the alleged rape.

According to a report, the woman suffered post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of the rape. If found guilty, the accused faces between 5 and 15 years in prison. The trial was adjourned on Monday to obtain a statement psychological report.
