One hundred thousand for a writing project for young people in northern Norway and Svalbard
The North Norwegian Writers’ Association (Nnf) invites young people in Northern Norway and Svalbard to participate in this summer’s exciting writing competition. The theme for the competition is «Kulturkræsj». How this word is to be interpreted, there is no definitive answer.
As a participant, you are free to write about what they want, and in the form they want to use, for example. short story, poem, fairy tale, debate post, article, letter, SOME post, scene in film script, etc., says Sylvi Jane Husebye.
This year, the North Norwegian Writers’ Association celebrates its 50th anniversary. In an anniversary year, you are often retrospective and look at the team’s history, something that Nnf will do in a separate anniversary book. Inspiring young, northern Norwegian voices is an equally important part of the team’s anniversary celebration. The region needs new voices for a new era.
Husebye has, together with several others in the North Norwegian writing team, worked out the writing competition to which they are now invited.
– This is a competition you can win without having a single friend on FB, says Sylvi Jane Husebye. – There will be no “voting competition”. We have a professional jury, consisting of northern Norwegian authors, who will evaluate the contributions.
The jury will focus on the content, not on spelling and punctuation.
– The writing competition for young people has been made possible thanks to financial support from Equinor, says Husebye. – Equinor also turns 50 this year, so this will be a creative collaboration where fifty-year-olds cheer for new, young voices in Northern Norway!
It is invited to participate in two classes, 13 – 16 years and 17 – 19 years. The deadline for submitting scripts is 15 August, and winners will be announced in connection with Nnf’s anniversary gathering on Sommarøya in Troms on Saturday 10 September.
Anne-Mette Fjærli, communications manager at Hammerfest LNG, was pleased to be able to present the symbolic check for 100,000. – We applaud young people who have opinions, thoughts and stories to tell, and who have the desire and inspiration to work with communication.
The theme for this award round was “unity and inclusion” and Nordnorsk Forfatterlag reached out in fierce competition with a good and apt application.
– It is also very nice that the competition covers the whole of Northern Norway and will help young writers from all over the region have the opportunity to use their voice and can reach out with their stories.
– In addition, it is extra cool to be able to hand over given, from one fifty-year-old to another, since we both have an anniversary this year. Equinor was established under the name The Norwegian State’s oil company, Statoil, on 14 June 1972, and has since its establishment contributed funds to volunteering around the country.
During the application period which was April 2022, we received over 2100 applications from associations, sports clubs and other organizations throughout the country. From Northern Norway, 249 applications were received, 6 were awarded 100,000 and 40 from Northern Norway received 10,000 in this round, says Fjærli.
