Metz-Luxembourg, twin cities
An exhibition traces the 70 years of friendship that unite Metz and the capital. To be discovered now at the Bierger-Center.
Last Wednesday, Lydie Polfer, mayor of the City of Luxembourg, and François Grosdidier, mayor of Metz, represented the exhibition “70 years of twinning between the cities of Luxembourg and Metz” at the Bierger-Centre of the City of Luxembourg.
The declaration of twinning between the two cities was signed in Metz on March 23, 1952, by Émile Hamilius, mayor of the City of Luxembourg at the time, and Raymond Mondon, then mayor of Metz, in the presence of the illustrious Robert Schuman , Minister of Foreign Affairs of the French Republic.
The initial aim of this cooperation was to strengthen exchanges between the two municipalities and their inhabitants. 70 years later, on March 23, 2022, it is with the same conviction and friendship that the guarantors of this heritage, Lydie Polfer and François Grosdidier, came together to celebrate the 70th anniversary of this twinning which was a precursor to other unions, the most important of which was the deepening of the European Union.
The exhibition, open until July 22 at the Bierger-Centre in the capital (44, place Guillaume II; Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) traces through an exhibition of eighteen photos from yesteryear and of today, extracts from newspapers and official documents, the 70 years of twinning between Metz and Luxembourg-city. Two border towns and above all friends. Additional information on the website www.vdl.lu.
