In Switzerland, mobile phone thieves are most active in the canton of Geneva. This shows the evaluation of an insurer.
Thieves have high season in summer. According to claims statistics from the insurance company Axa, a quarter of all mobile phones are stolen in July and August. In the pandemic years 2020 and 2021, theft of mobile phones in Switzerland decreased significantly. But with festivals, street fairs and other events taking place again this summer, crime in this area is likely to rise again, according to a communiqué from insurance company Axa.
It pays to be particularly careful, especially at weekends: more than half of all mobile phone thefts happen from Friday to Sunday. This is not surprising, because after all, most of the largest leisure events then took place.
More thefts in north-western and western Switzerland
However, there are not only big differences according to the day of the week, but also regionally when it comes to this type of crime. According to the Axa evaluation, the most stolen mobile phones per insured person were reported in the canton of Geneva in the last ten years. That is 6.4 times more than the Swiss average, they say.
Basel-Stadt (4.7 times higher), Bern (4.3 times higher), Basel-Landschaft (3.9 times higher) and Freiburg (3.8 times higher) also had an above-average number of mobile phone thefts ) on.
In addition, the cantons of Ticino, Graubünden and Thurgau were well below the national average. Here, only half as many mobile phone thefts are listed per insured person as the Swiss average.
